VANCOUVER, B.C. – Over a thousand hospitality workers across 14 communities in the province have voted to ratify a new four-year agreement with Hospitality Industrial Relations.

The workers included those employed in hotels, motels, pubs, and liquor stores in Fort St. John, Vancouver, Victoria, Coquitlam, Richmond, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Abbotsford, Harrison Hot Springs, Kamloops, Castlegar, Port Alberni, Mackenzie, and Prince Rupert.

The new agreement will include an extension of recall rights for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, through to July 1st, 2023, or when the World Health Organization declares the pandemic over.

Hospitality workers were working with the Unite Here Local 40 union for around 18-months as the union worked to get the needs met. Along with the recall rights, health care, and pension, the Union was also able to get protection regarding seasonal layoffs, increasing from six months to 12 months.
