FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The former executive director of the Peace Liard Regional Arts Council, Donna Kane, stepped down from her position earlier this week and announced her successor.

On Wednesday, Kane posted to the organization’s Facebook page, introducing Haley Bassett as the new executive director, effective that same day.

Knowing about Kane’s departure for some time, Bassett found out she’d be taking over at the end of August. The application deadline for the job was on August 21st.

Bassett is no stranger to the PLRAC, as she’s been on its board for a few years.

“I am beyond excited to be stepping into this new role. In many ways, it is a natural extension of the work I have already been doing through my position at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery, where I have created several regional art initiatives including HeART Walk and the Northern Arts Review,” says Bassett.

Bassett, a recent Emily Carr University of Art and Design graduate, believes one special thing about the north is the room to grow for young professionals.

“It is not surprising that I would find myself in this role so soon after graduating.”

“As an artist, born and raised in the region, I have always been passionate about supporting the arts, and I am excited for the opportunity to do so in this new capacity.”
