DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – An overnight standoff between a Dawson Creek resident and RCMP ended this morning after 16 hours.
The incident started on Thursday evening around 5:30 p.m. near 105th Avenue and 8th Street, and police say the situation was resolved shortly after 10 a.m. Friday.
“Members were called to a location concerned over a distraught person, possibly with a firearm. They evacuated people from nearby residences, the Emergency Response Team and our dog were called out, our negotiators were also called out, and they worked for about 16 hours to try and get that person out of that residence,” said RCMP spokesperson Chris Manseau. “It did resolve itself later this morning without any incident.”
Manseau thanks the public for keeping the area clear during the incident.
“We don’t want anybody hurt and obviously, having a whole crowd of people showing up is probably not good for the person who’s going through that crisis either.”
According to Manseau, the individual came out of the house and was taken into custody without further issue.
