FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. –  With kids getting ready to head back to the classroom, a pair of local organizations have teamed up to give students a great start to their school year.

MNP delivered 50 backpacks with school supplies to Nenan Dane Zaa Deh Zona Children & Family Services on Friday, which will be given in the communities Nenan serves.

Julie Ziebart, a partner at MNP, says she hopes other local businesses will join in.

“I’m hoping that because we did it, other companies will jump on board too,” says Ziebart. “I know that companies like Shell have done it in the past, so this year, we wanted to do something to give back. It’s been a tough year on everyone.”

According to Ziebart, this is the first year MNP has donated backpacks filled with supplies to children in the community, but it won’t be the last.

“When people are having a hard time, it’s hard having kids to go and do the school supply shopping. It’s not on the top of someone’s budget, and while other kids are super excited, we just want to alleviate some of that hardship.”

Ziebart hopes they are also providing families with a great start to their school year along with the much-needed supplies and backpacks.

Backpacks contain pens, pencils, notebooks, folders and more, including a friendly note from the team at MNP.

The note reads: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart! May this school year be the best!”
