Support Fort St John News

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro is taking applications to develop rustic recreation sites along the Peace River.

The Site C Rustic Recreation Site Fund is open to applications from September 1st to October 1st, 2021.

Non-profit groups, local governments and Indigenous groups are encouraged to submit applications for up to $10,000 in funding per site.

Projects may be new, or enhancements to existing rustic recreation sites, such as clearing areas for camping, fire pits, picnic tables or outdoor washrooms.

According to a release, the Rustic Recreation Site Fund was launched in 2019 to mitigate project impacts on rustic recreation sites due to the construction of the future Site C reservoir.

The fund will allocate $100,000 during Site C project construction, and an additional $100,000 will be allocated within 10 years of the reservoir filling.

Applicants will need to fill out necessary site authorization and designation from the B.C. Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

A guide to the application can be found here.
