CALGARY, AB – STARS received a $1 million donation from Tourmaline Oil, Canada’s largest natural gas producer.
The donation will be spread out over five years, supporting missions flown from STARS locations in six bases across western Canada.
The nearest STARS base is located in Grande Prairie, AB.
“We’re excited to support STARS and ensure the highest level of critical care is available to people when they need it most,” said Tourmaline president and CEO, Michael Rose. “Our investment in STARS furthers our commitment to protecting the health and safety of our employees, contractors and everyone who lives in and around our operations.”
STARS president and CEO, Andrea Robertson, says the organization is grateful for Tourmaline’s generosity.
“Like STARS, Tourmaline values the health and safety of the communities in which it operates and serves. We truly could not be there for the next patient who needs critical care across western Canada without the steadfast support of donors like Tourmaline. This commitment will enable STARS to continue fighting for the lives of patients when they need us most.”
The STARS Emergency Link Centre handled 32,702 emergency requests and 9,430 industry calls in 2020-2021, an average of 90 emergency requests per day. STARS flew 2,994 missions, an average of eight per day.
STARS allocates its funding into three areas: time (17.6 per cent), tools (20.1 per cent) and talent (62.3 per cent).
