UPDATE: The Rotary Spray Park is back in service, according to the City’s rec department.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John says the Rotary Spray Park will be closed until August 23rd due to North Peace Arena construction.
The power needed to be shut off for contractors to continue repairs, impacting the spray park.
“Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you in advance for your patience while we keep our contractors safe,” said the City’s rec department in a statement Tuesday.
Much needed repairs and upgrades to the arena received funding from the federal and provincial governments earlier this month.
The $859,000 grant will cover replacing the roof, and interior lighting with LED lights, and installing new air handling units and the roof exhaust fans.
The facility was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and stayed closed after a contractor discovered the roof trusses were out of alignment while conducting exterior cladding upgrades.
No one has been allowed to enter the arena at the recommendation of a structural engineering firm.
