FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Four hockey players from the Peace region are among the top 52 invited to the BC Hockey Program of Excellence Provincial Camp in Pitt Meadows.
Brooke Disher, Keagan Goulet, Kasey Ditner and Hailey Armstrong will suit up for Team Blue from August 19th to 22nd.
Disher, who plays for Rink Hockey Academy, will join fellow Fort St. John product and Northern Capitals AAA defender Keagan Goulet on the blueline.
Baldonnel’s Kasey Ditner, who plays for Okanagan Hockey Academy, will solidify the Peace region contingent on defence.
Goulet’s Capitals teammate, Hailey Armstrong, is the sole forward on the team from the area.
The four-day camp is based on the national team program designed to train athletes to compete at an elite level, emulating national and international competitions.
Players will try to earn a spot on Team BC at the 2021 National Women’s U18 Championship in Dawson Creek in late October.
This tournament is an opportunity for Hockey Canada scouts to identify players that will play for Team Canada at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, as well as other international events.
The steps in the Program of Excellence are different this time around. The U18 Open Camps were not held this year, usually the first step in the process. After Provincial Camp, there would be a Preparation Camp in September, but that won’t be held this year. The Team BC Pre-Stage Camp dates and times are yet to be determined.
Team Blue will play its first of four games on August 21st against Team Green.
The 2021 National Women’s U18 Championship will be held in Dawson Creek from October 31st to November 6th, 2021.
