FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Huskies will open their regular season on the road, taking on the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks on September 24th.

The NWJHL released the schedule for the 2021-2022 season on Friday afternoon with the Huskies playing their first eight games in their road jerseys.

The Huskies will have to wait to welcome fans to the North Peace Arena as repairs are being completed, but the home opener will be Friday, October 22nd against the Fairview Flyers.

When the 2020-2021 season was put on hold in November, the Huskies had only played two regular-season games.

The Northwest Junior Hockey League hasn’t been able to determine a champion since the 2018-2019 season when the Huskies beat the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings in six games.

The Huskies have won seven league titles since the league was founded in the 1994-1995 season.

Tryouts will go from August 27th to the 29th at the Pomeroy Sport Centre. A special presentation to recognize 25-year announcer Joe Stevens will be held before the first ice session at 8 p.m. on the 27th.

According to the Huskies Facebook page, the team is still looking for billet families to take in a player this season. Contact Kerri at [email protected] to find out more.
