VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 20 new cases Thursday, raising the active case count to 67.

There are three people in hospital, two of whom are in critical care.

There were no COVID-19 deaths Thursday, keeping the regional total at 158.

Out of 7,895 confirmed cases, 7,669 have recovered.

There were 1,698 vaccine doses given since the last report, bringing the total number of doses given in the region to 303,629. Of those, 134,942 are second doses.

The province added 402 new cases Thursday, pushing the active case count to 2,066.

There are 58 people in hospital, 21 of whom are in critical care.

There were no COVID-19 deaths recorded Thursday, keeping the provincial total at 1,772.

Out of 151,375 total cases in B.C., 147,510 have since recovered.

Across the province, 33,247 vaccine doses were given Wednesday, raising the total number of doses given to 6,965,062. Of those, 3,174,097 are second doses.

While B.C. saw the highest one-day case count of any province Wednesday with 342 new cases, Dr. Bonnie Henry says they expected to see an increase in cases with an increase in contacts.

“We expected that we were going to see increased numbers of cases, and we’ve taken additional measures in those focal areas where we’re starting to see that high increase.”

Henry says the Province is looking at all options for vaccine verification.

“We will not be denying people essential services based on their vaccination status,” said Henry.

“I’ve also said very clearly that there are some services where people who work in those industries, and we think of healthcare as an essential public service, that we make sure we are protecting healthcare workers, protecting the healthcare system, and the people that we care for.”
