UPDATED: Diversion has been cancelled as of 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

CHETWYND, B.C. – Northern Health is advising that the Chetwynd General Hospital is on complete diversion.

The diversion is in effect as of July 28th at 9:30 a.m., and currently has no estimated time of re-opening.

The current diversion is due to over-capacity and patient acuity.

The Chetwynd General Hospital has been on multiple diversions this summer.

Those in the community who are in need of emergency care are to call 9-1-1 for transport to the next open emergency department in either Dawson Creek or Fort St. John or can seek private transportation to these facilities.

Patients who are unsure whether their condition would warrant an emergency room visit or need health advice can contact HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 or can visit its website for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Patients can also call the Northern Health Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811. This service is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 7 days a week.
