The Peace River Regional District is going to write a letter.
Directors will send a letter to Agriculture Minister Lana Popham, outlining their concerns about the state of farming after being impacted by the 2021 heat dome.
They vote in favour of sending a letter at their July 22 meeting, with their recommendation noting that the extended duration of extreme temperatures and lack of rain has created a negative impact on the quality and quantity of crops in the Peace.
In addition, a severe shortage of feed already exists, hay and pasture, along with damages to yields of grain and oil seed.
The recommendation also notes that the drought extends beyond the fields here, into Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, so searching for livestock feed elsewhere will be a challenge.
Electoral Area Directors are already reaching out to local producers to see exactly what the needs are, as noted in their July 22 agenda.
