FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Transit is highlighting the work of the Peace Country Transit team in Fort St. John.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most impacted groups anywhere has been seniors, which is due to their vulnerable health and the isolation that many have had to experience.  The Peace Country Transit team helped to support seniors in the area and lift their spirits.

Transit workers in the area participated in the community service group, ‘COVID-19 Seniors Task Force’. The group comprises members of the community and community leaders from various industries that worked together to carry out several different initiatives to help support seniors in the area.

These initiatives included delivering prescriptions, preparing meals, arranging transportation, even calling seniors over the holidays to call and check in.

“With senior’s centres closing and no activities happening for older members of our community, the task force really worked together to brainstorm ways we could help improve their lives,” said Denis LitvinovGeneral Manager, Peace Country Transit. “One of the most rewarding things our transit team took part in is something called ‘Forever Flowers’ where we delivered flowers to seniors to brighten their days.”

The COVID-19 Seniors Task Force received the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year Award in April as part of the FSJ Community Awards.
