PINK MOUNTAIN, B.C. – Highway 97 has been closed between km 285 and km 345 due to wildfires, says the Alaska Highway Road Report.

The Prince George Fire Centre says two uncontrolled fires reported Monday near Pink Mountain have combined and expanded to 3,000 hectares.

A ten-hectare fire was also detected Tuesday near Trutch, which is less than a kilometre from the highway.

There are also expected delays from km 355 to km 359.

Also detected on Tuesday is a fire approximately 20 kilometres from the BC/Northwest Territories border. The cause and size of the wildfire are unknown.

There are nine active wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre, eight of which are due to lightning, according to the BC Wildfire dashboard.

There are currently four active fires in the Fort Nelson area ranging between 0.50 hectares to six hectares that were reported on Monday. A 0.01 hectare and eight-hectare fire is also being reported in the Kotcho Lake area, and a 90-hectare fire near Beatton River.

This is a developing story.
