DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – While most students had their last day of school last week, SD 59 schools have cancelled classes for Tuesday, June 29th.

The closure is a cautionary measure as most schools do not have air conditioning, and temperatures are expected to reach as high as 40 C on Tuesday.

Parents will be able to pick up report cards and student belongings on Tuesday and Wednesday, then again from July 2nd to 6th.

The announcement on the School District 59 website says some schools that had year-end activities planned will have to be either cancelled or reorganized.

The decision to cancel classes on Tuesday is in line with other districts across the province that are impacted by the heatwave, says the announcement.
