FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Conservation Officer Service says it is heartbroken over the loss of one of its own.

Tristan Montjoy went missing while not on duty, and by the time he was located, he had passed away.

“Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, who we are supporting during this difficult time,” said Doug Forsdick, Chief Conservation Officer. “The COS is a family and we are devastated at this tragic loss. Tristan was passionate about protecting our natural resources for future generations and was well-liked and respected by everyone who knew him. He will be forever missed.”

The 24-year-old conservation officer grew up in Lillooet, and he was extremely proud of his St’át’imc Nation and Haida Nation heritage, according to the release.

“The COS is extremely honoured to bring one of their very own home to his family so he may rest in peace within the traditional territory of his St’át’imc Nation,” says the release.

Further details have yet to be released.
