DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The Dawson Creek RCMP has released some prevention tips to help reduce the rise in property theft.

As warmer weather approaches it only takes a few moments for a thief to grab items like tools, bikes, lawn equipment, or utility vehicles. To make sure residents property remain in their hands, RCMP have made suggestions.

Make sure to securely lock vehicles and don’t leave any valuables inside, including your keys. Those with trailer hitches, make sure to use locks that protect against theft.

When it comes to your home, lock all doors and windows and be sure to close and lock garage and shed doors.

The installation of security cameras is also an investment that may deter any theft as well. Many residents have been installing doorbell cameras that will notify the homeowner if the sensor is activated.

Lastly, make a record of your valuables, write down serial numbers, vehicle identification numbers, any information for bikes, boats, trailers, and utility vehicles.

And as always, should community members see anything suspicious happening in the area, report it to the RCMP.
