VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 47 new cases over the weekend, including 17 from Sunday to Monday.

The active case count in the region sits at 140.

There are seven people in hospital, two of whom are in critical care.

There were three COVID-19 deaths reported over the weekend, bringing the total to 146.

Out of 7,465 total cases recorded in the region, 7,176 have recovered.

The province added 1,316 new cases over the weekend. From Friday to Saturday there were 443 cases, 493 from Saturday to Sunday, and 424 cases from Sunday to Monday.

British Columbia’s active case count sits at 5,021.

There are 350 people in hospital, 132 of whom are in critical care.

There were 14 COVID-19 deaths over the weekend, bringing B.C.’s total to 1,648.

Of the 139,664 confirmed cases in the province, 132,841 have recovered.

Northern Health announced COVID-19 school exposures for three School District 60 schools.

Anne Roberts Young Elementary had an exposure notice on May 10th.

North Peace Secondary had an exposure confirmed between May 10th and 12th.

Margaret Ma Murray had multiple exposures, from May 5th to 7th and from May 10th to 12th.

Brigadier General Krista Brodie has been chosen to lead Canada’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

The federal government made the announcement Monday after Major General Dany Fortin was forced to step aside to participate in a military investigation.
