FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Jim Lequire is set to fill Becky Grimsrud’s seat in the council chambers after winning the 2021 By-election.

Lequire wound up with 474 votes.  Sarah MacDougall received 382 votes, Thomas Whitton 180, Trystan Jones 140 and Jon Gosselin 64.

“Congrats to the other candidates. The city would be lucky to have anyone of them, ” says Lequire at the Pomeroy Sport Centre Saturday night.

“Thanks to my wife for not having me around for a month and a half campaigning. And, thank you to my team.”

Lequire joins Mayor Lori Ackerman, Trevor Bolin, Lilia Hansen, Gord Klassen, Byron Stewart, and Tony Zabinsky on council.

Lequire will be sworn in at the beginning of the May 25th regular council meeting.

Voter turnout was up by one percent over the last by-election in 2017 to right per cent. A total of 1,240 votes were cast out of 15,249 eligible voters.

The 2021 by-election saw a high number of mail-in votes due to the pandemic.

A total of 1,120 voters headed to the polls during the 2017 By-election.
