FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A community member has started a GoFundMe to raise funds to plant a tree in memory of Amanda Black.

“She was so incredibly loved by myself and so many other people in Fort St. John,” says organizer Kacey Slater.

Black tragically lost her life earlier this year in February. She was buried on Gabriola Island, leaving behind many friends in FSJ looking for a place to go and remember her.

The fundraiser would also raise funds to purchase a plaque and a picnic table.

“The doorsteps of her house have been covered in flowers, cards, teddies and other things by those who love her,’ says Slater.

The amount requested on the GoFundMe is $3,000, which would cover the cost of the tree, the plaque, and a picnic table. Any leftover funds would go towards a trust fund for Black’s son.

The GoFundMe was started on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, around $900 of the $3,000 goal has been raised.
