ROLLA, B.C – Rolla’s Donna Kane is being recognized for having one of the best books published in Canada last year.

Kane’s poetry collection, Orrery, has made her a 2020 Governor General’s Literary Awards finalist. Her work orbits around the theme of Pioneer 10, an American space probe launched in 1972 to study Jupiter’s moons.

A peer assessment committee selected 70 Canadian books as the best in 2020 across 14 different categories. Kane is among five finalists in the poetry category.

The 2020 winners will be announced on June 1st after last year’s awards were postponed due to the pandemic. The regular schedule will resume with the 2021 finalists and winners being revealed this fall.

Each finalist will receive $1,000, and the winner will be awarded $25,000, while the publisher for each winning book will be awarded $3,000.
