DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Northern Development has approved $1.3 million in funding for projects through central and northern B.C, including a project in Dawson Creek.

The Dawson Creek Sportsman’s Club was approved for $300,000 in funding under the Recreation Infrastructure program.

The Sportsman’s Club will be constructing an indoor shooting range at the Riley Crossing property within the Peace River Regional District. The previous indoor shooting range was demolished around 30 years ago.

Director of the Dawson Creek Sportsman’s Club, Paul De Costa says have waited over 25 years to replace the gun range. The club has also saved money from past gun shows.

“Our community and our club members are excited that such a facility will be available to utilize all year round.  Dawson Creek’s 1,480 members salute NDIT for assisting in making our dream come true,” says  De Costa.

The project will include the construction and finishing of a new, fully serviced, indoor shooting range for year-round pistol, archery, and .22 rim fire rifle sports.

With unpredictable winter weather, the outdoor ranges don’t get as much usage in those months. This new facility would permit year-round events, including competitions and youth programs.
