FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is looking to top up its outreach store.
The organization will be at Save-on-Foods Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and is asking for non-perishables, hygiene products, and monetary donations.
Outreach and Housing Coordinator Lisa Jewell says the number of service users for the first part of 2021 is up 48 per cent compared to last year.
“The numbers are through the roof. And we definitely need a little bit more support from the community,” says Jewell.
” In March alone, we had 756 people hit our table outside the door.”
The organization will have a list of items shoppers can go off if they’re looking to donate during their grocery trip. This is perfect timing as Save-On is having its case lot sale during the food drive.
“Save-On can offer those low prices, and sponsors and donors can spend a few less dollars and maybe contribute a bit of food to our cause.
With the uptick in residents using the outreach store throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the non-profit is planning ahead by hosting another food drive outside Save-On on June 1st.
“We’re really hoping to kind of get topped up enough now to last until we start maybe Christmas fundraising. “
