FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District has been recognized for the second consecutive time for its 2019 annual financial report.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada chose the PRRD for the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting.

PRRD board chair Brad Sperling says the accessibility of information is a priority.

“We strive for transparency in our processes and reporting, so we are pleased to receive this recognition for the second year in a row,” says Sperling.

“It’s a testament to our Board and our staff’s commitment to providing accessible financial information for PRRD residents.”

According to GFOA, the program was developed to encourage municipal governments to publish high-quality financial reports and provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

Winning this award is a significant accomplishment for the government and its management, says the district.

To be awarded a Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual financial report.

The GFOA says such reports should go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and demonstrate an effort to clearly communicate the municipal government’s financial picture, enhance an understanding of financial reporting by municipal governments, and address user needs.
