VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 20 new cases on Wednesday, moving the active case count down to 197.

Out of 19 people in hospital, eight are in critical care.

There were no deaths from COVID-19 recorded Wednesday keeping the total at 140.

There have been 7,116 confirmed cases in the Northern Health Region since last spring, and 6,776 have since recovered.

British Columbia added 841 new cases Wednesday, bringing the active case count to 8,009.

There are 515 people in hospital, 171 of whom are in critical care.

The province added five COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total to 1,576.

Out of 127,889 confirmed cases in B.C. since last March, 118,057 have recovered.

Canada is receiving the first 300,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine today, according to a federal official.

The federal government has not indicated where doses are coming from, because it needs to protect this new vaccine supply chain.

Canada has purchased 10 million doses, with the option to purchase an additional 28 million.

Doses are expected to ship out to provinces next week.
