Northern Health Region adds 31 new cases, rash of school exposures

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 31 new cases on Tuesday, moving the active case count down to 232.

Out of 18 people in hospital, nine are in critical care.

With no COVID-19 related deaths reported Tuesday, the total remains at 136.

The region has 6,868 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 6,492 of those have recovered.

British Columbia added 849 new cases to bring the active case count down to 9,145.

There are 456 people in hospital, 148 of whom are in critical care.

One death was recorded across British Columbia Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,539

There have been 120,889 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the province since the beginning of the pandemic. Of those, 109,973 have since recovered.

In School District 59, Tremblay Elementary had a COVID-19 school exposure from April 7th to 9th.

Chetwynd Secondary School had an exposure on April 12th.

In School District 60, Duncan Cran Elementary School had an exposure from April 6th to 8th, and April 12th to 14th.

North Peace Secondary School had a school exposure on April 12th and 13th.

Doctor Kearney Middle School also had a school exposure on April 12th and 13th.

Energetic Learning Campus had a COVID-19 exposure on April 14th and 15th.

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

The outbreak is limited to the Medical Inpatient Unit. Two laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported.

This is the second outbreak declared at the Dawson Creek & District Hospital. The previous outbreak lasted from February 8th to March 12th.
