TAYLOR, B.C. – Pembina Pipeline says there were no impacts to its Younger Extraction Plant, its workers or the environment after an unplanned outage Wednesday.

During an outage, the company automatically enters a fail-safe state and depressurizes its gas lines as a safety precaution. The unplanned plant outage at the facility located in Taylor occurred on April 14th, between 7 p.m. to around 4 a.m. Thursday.

“As a result, higher than normal flaring occurs as excess gas is dispelled out of flare stacks. In this instance, flaring was accompanied by excessive noise’” says John Wilson, the facility’s operations supervisor, in a statement.

Wilson apologized for the incident, stating that residents are rarely disturbed by the noise coming from the facility during normal operations.

“We are currently investigating the cause of this excess noise and are working to rectify it as soon as possible. We have notified the BC Oil and Gas Commission of this event.”

The facility resumed regular operations around 4 a.m. Thursday.
