FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John and Area Better at Home weekly meals for seniors are now covered until May, thanks to Petronas.
According to Laura Beamish, Program Coordinator with Better at Home, they have a partnership with Aniela’s Kitchen for meals once a week. The meals are brought to different seniors in the area on a rotation. There are 100 seniors involved with meals being given to 50 a week, meaning every two weeks, the seniors get a meal.
Beamish says that Petronas approached them early in the year and were interested in paying out the program until May. She states that if they decide to continue past May, this gives them the chance to fundraise.
Better at Home also works with the Salvation Army to deliver groceries to low-income people once a month. The last year they have also been grocery shopping for those who cannot get out and do it themselves due to COVID-19 and other reasons.
The Fort St. John and Area Better at Home program has been around for seven years this week.
