FORT NELSON, B.C. – The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality council is waiting for more information before deciding on Nonda Creek Tower Road.

The Tower’s decommissioning last fall by Northwestel (NWTel) has raised concerns and discussions regarding the future of the road that accessed the tower site.

According to the NRRM newsletter, From the Bear Pit, the original road had a bridge installed over the Toad River. A portion of the road is located within the boundaries of Muncho Lake Provincial Park, Crown Land, and within the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA).

The M-KMA is designated as a globally significant area of wilderness, wildlife, and cultures that are to be maintained in perpetuity. Travel by vehicles is limited within the area to specific routes, which the Nonda Creek Tower Road is.

Council has been in discussions with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources Operations and Rural Development (MFLNRORD), BC Parks, and NWTel since 2020.
