FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – A local couple asks for help after coming home from a grocery trip to their apartment on fire.

Shayna and Conrad Worth have set up a GoFundMe after losing all their possessions due to fire and smoke damage on Friday.

“We’ve never had anything like this happen to us, and we are at a loss. Anything donated would be greatly appreciated, and it will go a long way,” read the GoFundMe page.

There is currently just over $1,000 donated out of the $5,000 goal set.

The City of Fort St John Fire Department responded to the home in the 9600 Block of 98A Avenue just before 5 p.m. on Friday.

Chief Darrell Blades says a resident was shovelling snow into a basement window to slow the fire before the fire department arrived.

While on duty, firefighters were able to limit the spread of the fire from where it started.

On Saturday, Blades mentioned that the City’s Emergency Support Services team is working with the residents to provide temporary support.

Blades says the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

The Department responded with four fire apparatus, three command vehicles and a support vehicle with around 20 members.
