DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District will be discussing the bridge on Road 218 in Farmington during its March 11th meeting.
In December, the District issued a letter to the Honourable Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, regarding the bridge replacement.
In the letter, the District discussed how the bridge has helped serve the community for over 70 years. In June 2020, high water levels washed out both approaches to the bridge and revealed the bridge was deteriorating underneath.
Minister Fleming responded in January, saying that local ministry staff are conducting an engineering assessment of the bridge to evaluate potential replacement options.
Without the bridge, local farmers now have to use the highway to move farm equipment to access fields. This causes a safety risk for both the farmers and those on the highway.
