FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Over $61,000 was raised for the Child Development Centre (CDC) raised through its 47th annual talent show, which went virtual this year.

“I had no expectations this year, I said if we raised between [$40,000 and $50,000], we could get a couple of all-terrain wheelchairs, we can do a few renovations to some of our therapy spaces, and that’ll be good. We’ll call her good,” says Executive Director Tana Millner.

Along with the all-terrain wheelchairs and renovations to the therapy rooms, the CDC will also put some funds towards their mortgage.

Millner says funds are still coming in from the event. The CDC also worked with various businesses in the community as they hosted events to support the centre leading up to the talent show.

Millner says they considered not doing the event at all, but Talent Show coordinator Crystal Kalas thought it could be pulled off.

“Kudos to her. I will say it was a little challenging having it virtual. We had a few little technical things here and there, but overall, it went really, really well. We had a fantastic response from the community, the performers, and people sponsoring.”

In previous years, the event raised between $75,000 to $100,000.
