FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The grand re-opening of the new Visa Rentals & Leasing location on Alaska road included the presentation of cheques to four local organizations.

To celebrate the grand re-opening Thursday, Visa Rentals welcomed Mayor Ackerman to perform the ribbon-cutting, plus representatives from four local charities.

Linda Side, Managing Director of the Side Group, presented cheques to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation ($10,000), Women’s Resource Society ($5,000),  Salvation Army ($5,000), and Friendship Society ($5,000).

The Alaska road location is significant to the Side family, the co-owners of Visa Rentals & Leasing. Side says her family’s roots run deep along this stretch of highway.

“Not only did Visa Truck Rentals start renting trucks on Alaska Road inside of Northern Metalic Sales some 50 years ago, but it was in 1946 that our Grandpa Harrison, with the entire family in tow, travelled by army carry-all from their homestead in West Peace River to begin their adventure on the Alaska Highway,” says Side.

Since then, Visa Rentals has been supplying vehicles and some heavy equipment to the community. In 2019, a partnership with Jim Pattison Lease allowed Visa to expand its services with a full lease and fleet management technology suite.

The Sides are firm believers in supporting the community. They consider themselves fortunate, particularly during a difficult time for so many.

“Our businesses in Fort St. John are supported by the 160 strong employee base that makes things happen every day. It is on behalf of these folks and their families that we mark this grand re-opening of Visa Rentals & Leasing by contributing to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation, The Fort St. John Salvation Army, The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, and the Fort St. John Friendship Society.”

Mayor Lori Ackerman echoes the sentiment of community spirit.

“A scout troop only hikes at the pace of its slowest hiker. So when you have opportunities to give to those who are less fortunate, then you do it,” says Ackerman.

Northern Metalic Sales Group, Devco Developments, Baron Oilfield Supply, and AAA safety are sister companies of Visa Rentals & Leasing.
