PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Prince George and Shuswap Community Foundations are taking part in a Healthy Communities Initiative that will have funding available for communities across Central and Northern BC.
The $987,170 in funding will help to transform public spaces in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding is part of the Federal Governments’ new $31 million Healthy Communities Initiative. An investment that will support community-led organizations in developing local, small-scale infrastructure projects that cater to the needs that have arisen from the pandemic.
Organizations are invited to apply for funding amounts between $5,000 and $250,000 to lead projects to create safe and vibrant public spaces, improve mobility options, and provide digital solutions for neighbourhoods and communities.
Projects could include adapting crosswalks and public transport access to allow for physical distancing, creating community gardens, art installations, and getting access to free WiFi in public spaces.
Eligible to apply for funding are local governments, charities, Indigenous communities, and registered non-profit organizations.
Applications are being accepted now until March 9th at 5 p.m. PST, with a second round of applications in May.
