FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – This weekend’s Taste of Japan ’online cooking class is raising funds for Rotary Club of Fort St. John projects.

The virtual class will be led by Rotarian Shukuko Abe over Zoom on February 20th to teach the community how to make classic Japanese dishes.

The menu includes Katsudon (かつ丼), a crispy chicken or pork cutlet served with savoury sauce and egg over a bowl of rice, and spinach gomaae (ほうれん草の胡麻和え), an easy veggie side dish of blanched spinach dressed in nutty sesame dressing.

“I am doing this event to raise money for our Rotary Club so that we can help the community in return,”  says Abe. “I also would like to provide a unique, social, and interactive event for people to get together during this pandemic. I would like people to taste an authentic Japanese home meal since we can not  travel easy these days.”

The class starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday and is $50, which includes the Zoom link, cooking instructions and all the ingredients, or $25, which doesn’t include the ingredients.

A free ready-made Miso soup is being given to the first 20 people who register for the $50 option.
