FORT NELSON, B.C – Fort Nelson ultrasound services have been cancelled for the foreseeable future due to a lack of staff.

Northern Health posted the announcement to its Fort Nelson & Area Facebook page Wednesday.

In the past, there have been regular visits to Fort Nelson from members of the Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

Visits have been cancelled due to lack of available staff, as well as the recent replacement of the ultrasound unit with a brand new machine.

The technologists who used to make regular visits to Fort Nelson General Hospital have taken other positions.

The health authority is working to contract with a travelling technologist service to support Fort Nelson, while it comes up with a long term recruitment plan.

Northern Health works with the CNC ultrasound program in Prince George, offering employment to all graduates, as well as offering relocation allowances.

Fort Nelson community members who need ultrasound services are encouraged to contact the Medical Imaging Department and have their referrals sent to Dawson Creek or Fort St. John.
