FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Rotary Club of FSJ donated over $70,000 to the Ma Murray School playground project.
The Rotary Club stopped by the school on January 27th to drop off their final donation of $47,954.13.
Fundraising for the project began in 2018 when Raj Acharjee wanted to host a Bollywood event to help raise money to benefit local kids. The event raised over $10,000.

The Rotary Club of FSJ then decided to join forces with the school Parent Advisory Council (PAC) to work on funding for a playground— not just for the school but also for the community.
Last month, NorthRiver Midstream (NRM) presented a cheque to the school marking the completion of the PAC’s fundraising efforts for the playground. This comes after the donation covered the remaining amount needed.
In total, the Fort St. John Rotary Club raised $70,054.13 for the project.
Between 2019 and 2020, the Rotary Club applied to more than 40 different corporations for grants, raising $33,000 from the following companies:
Along with those funds, the Rotary also used $20,174.09 from the Rotary Mega Lottery proceeds from 2018 to 2020 and leveraged matching grants from Rotary International District 5370 for $6,575.
Playground construction is expected to begin in July with the new playground becoming available to students in the fall.
