FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – The City of Fort St. John is forking over $500,000 in grant funding to community organizations this year.

On Monday, council approved $513,851 to be split between the following eight groups:

Council also approved 100 per cent funding for the municipal portion of property taxes and half the non-municipal costs (school and PRRD) in 2021 for the following organizations:

Council regretfully declined the Fort St. John Curling Club’s $8,301 request to modernize its banquet and lounge area. The City says capital project planning for the building is part of its management agreement with the group.

The North Peace Gymnastics Association requested $20,000, which council declined. The request was to support recreational programming’s impacts due to COVID-19 and to assist with 2021 costs.

The City’s draft operating budget shows $552,830 put aside for grants this year. A total of $578,132 in grant funding was requested through 10 applications.
