DAWSON CREEK, B.C – Dawson Creek RCMP confirms a cold exposure related death that happened this weekend.
Police says the 68-year-old woman was drinking with her neighbour. She left the home at 1 a.m. on Sunday and did not make it back home.
The police were called in around 11 a.m. on Sunday after she was discovered by her friend.
RCMP did not release any further details as it is an ongoing investigation.
The niece of the deceased, who wants to stay anonymous, told Energeticcity.ca “there is an ongoing investigation for suspicion and foul play. The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences”.
Residents are asked to take precautions when facing extreme temperatures while travelling such as packing a bag of warm clothes, avoid travelling alone, and maintain contact with a friend/family who can ensure your arrival.
Dawson Creek temperatures got to a low of around -42 °C on Sunday, according to Environment Canada.
