FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation has announced that the 22nd Annual Bluey Day ‘Be Brave & Shave’ event will take place on May 15th.
The Foundation is inviting individuals, families, friends, and businesses to register either independently or as part of a team.
Participants can grow out their hair or beards, and collect pledges through their various networks and shave their heads and/or facial hair on Bluey Day. Some participants will donate their locks to ‘Wigs for Kids.’

“This event brings our entire community together to support the participants who shave their heads. People who are shaving their heads are doing it to show they really care and they want to show their support for someone ‘living with cancer’, ‘having treatment for cancer’ or ‘recovering from cancer treatment’, and ‘for those who are in remission and have passed that milestone’,” says the Foundation in a social media post last week.
To have their head or beard shaved, the participant must raise a minimum of $500. However, most set a much higher goal.
Funds raised from the annual event go to the Cancer Diagnostic and Care fund to help purchase emergent equipment needs for the Diagnostic Imaging Department, Laboratory, Surgical Department, and Endoscopy Suite.
Last year, the event raised over $110,000 for FSJ Hospital’s Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Fund.
