FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman is gearing up to join the community during the High On Ice Winter Fest activities.

Ackerman says her family is getting into the spirit, and is working on an ice sculpture of their own.

“At home, we have done some research and we are going to attempt to construct something in our front lawn. We don’t have the big chunks of ice that we would normally get for carving, so Andy (Ackerman) and I have been out there creating our own ice.”

Ackerman also applauds the recreation staff for doing an exceptional job in preparing for the event, despite juggling public health orders while creating a memorable experience.

This year, things will look a little different for the 17th annual event, and Ackerman says there will be lots of opportunities to take part in the fun while staying home.

“This year there’s going to be a lot of home activities, and there’s the passport as well. You can go online, get your passport, and go out into our local businesses and enjoy some food, enjoy some shopping, enjoy some activities, and give a little back to the community.”

Examples of contests include building a silly bobsled, building a snow fort or snowman, best-decorated house and business, and a winter photo contest among others.

The High on Ice Winter Fest runs from Feb. 12th to 15th.
