UPDATE: Articles includes information from Fort St. John Fire Chief Darrell Blades.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – The Green Glen B apartment building was damaged after a Friday morning fire.

The Fort St. John Fire Department confirms that it was an electrical fire due to heat tape failing.

The fire resulted in damage to the outside of the building, a vacant suite. Some parts, on the inside of the building, received smoke damage as well.

Fire Chief Darrell Blades says residents of the building attempted to put out the fire with multiple extinguishers.

The building residents were evacuated at 12:35 a.m. early on Friday, and the fire was out at 1:30 a.m.

They were able to re-enter the building at 2:30 a.m.

Although the incident is still under investigation, Blades says the fire isn’t deemed suspicious.

More information will be released as it comes in.
