VICTORIA, B.C. – Dawson Creek is among 29 communities across the province set to benefit from a capital funding project.

The funding is through the Community Gaming Grants and involves the health and services sector, search and rescue operations, and arts and recreation facilities.

This year, 53 not-for-profits are receiving a total of $5 million in grants. With the funds, they’ll make upgrades to community facilities and infrastructure and update any technology and equipment that will help improve program delivery.

In the Peace Region, the Dawson Creek Society Community Living was awarded $250,000 to construct a building extension. This will help support the increased demand for programs and services.

The Dawson Creek Society for Community Living helps provide support and assistance to people with developmental disabilities and seniors.

“The pandemic has highlighted the important role our community organizations fulfill, and their ability to provide direct support for people in communities has been vital. Whether it’s helping local food banks or connecting people through technology and mobile services, we are here to support British Columbians through this difficult time and create stronger, more resilient communities,” says Minister of Municipal Affairs Josie Osborne.

Since 2017, the capital project sector has helped 285 not-for-profit organizations in 92 communities buy equipment and make renovations that help improve their operations.
