FORT ST. JOHN – Students are about to have a new place to play after a generous donation to Margaret Ma Murray Community School (MMMCS).

NorthRiver Midstream (NRM) presented a cheque to the school, which opened in 2018, on Friday, marking the completion of the school’s Parent Advisory Council’s fundraising efforts for the playground. This comes after the donation covered the remaining amount needed.

“The PAC has worked extremely hard to find the support for this playground and have diligently worked on fundraising for this substantial investment in our community. We are so looking forward to the installation this summer, and the years of enjoyment the students, families and community members will receive from this joint project,” says Principal Kathy Scheck.

Often Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) are fundraising to enhance playgrounds and replace out of date components, according to School District 6o on Tuesday.

“I was ecstatic when we were told that NorthRiver Midstream was going to fund the remainder of the project and our school will now have a brand new all-inclusive playground for our children and the community to enjoy. I will never be able to express how thankful the PAC is to make our playground dream into a reality,” MMMCS PAC President Christine Kraeleman.

Construction is expected to begin in July with the new playground becoming available to students in the fall.

Energeticcity.ca reached out to the district to get the amount raised for the project but didn’t receive a reply at the time the article was published.
