VICTORIA, B.C. – 49 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the Northern Health Region on Friday.
Today’s recorded cases have brought the number of active cases up to 497.
The total case count in the region climbed to 2,745. The recovery rate stayed at 80 per cent.
The province recorded 509 new cases, dropping active cases to 4,604.
British Columbia’s recovery rate is 88 per cent, with 53,115 recovered.
Across the province, 349 people are in hospital. There are 68 cases in Intensive Care.
B.C. reported nine more deaths on Friday, bringing the death toll to 1,047.
The South African variant of Covid-19 has appeared in the Fraser Health Region, as well as the U.K. variant.
Both strains of the virus have high rates of infection, causing concerns that another surge in cases is on the horizon.
Procurement Minister Anita Anand says the supply of the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine has been delayed.
The company is scaling up European manufacturing capacity, a decision that will affect short term production.
Over 380,000 doses have been shipped to Canada and that number was expected to double by the end of the month.
The impact of the delay will be felt in the last week of January.
