VICTORIA, B.C. – Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 11,930 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has been distributed to all health regions across British Columbia, with more on the way including doses produced by Moderna.
According to Henry, the majority of the Moderna doses will be used in remote communities, such as in Northern B.C., as the Moderna vaccine can be transported easier than Pfizer’s vaccine.
According to Henry, 2,206 new cases were confirmed across B.C., from December 24 to December 29, bringing the total to 50,815.
Active cases across the province, as of Tuesday, stand at 7,580, and 41,175 have since recovered.
Hospitalizations in B.C. are at 373, with 80 of those in ICU.
The province’s death count now sits at 882.
9,414 people are currently under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases but does not include the Northern Health Region due to a data error.
When it comes to celebrating new years, Henry says no parties should be held to help slow the transmission of the virus.
“Any social gathering is not allowed at this time and this includes at restaurants and bars. We must only go to a restaurant with our own household.”
