FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Province has published an opinion piece from Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman about the opportunities in natural resources.

Mayor Ackerman wrote an opinion piece for The Province Newspaper, where she discusses the importance of the Federal and Provincial government working with municipalities as partners to help extract and use the resources found within British Columbia, especially within the Northern region.

According to Ackerman, governments have many opportunities to partner with municipalities, not just with natural gas but also with forestry, agriculture, mining, and more. She says these are opportunities to grow the GDP and allow B.C. to invest in the social infrastructure needed in communities across the province.

Mayor Ackerman also stresses this is a way to engage and create opportunities for First Nations, saying they have been involved with the forestry industry or the natural-gas industry for decades. She also mentions that working and partnering together could bring a reconciliation as everyone works together to lift everybody.
