CHETWYND, B.C. – Three people survived an avalanche Friday near Bijoux Falls.

Avalanche Canada says the avalanche happened Friday, December 18, near Bijoux Falls.

Three group members were helping a fourth member from a different group of snowmobilers get unstuck from a slope.

After the person that was stuck left, the three members were walking back or sitting on their sleds when the avalanche started.

All three were caught and carried by the slide, with one person being fully buried. All managed to self extricate themselves from the slide and suffered only minor injuries.

All members were able to return to their staging area under their own power.

Over 85 cm of snow fell in the area last week, causing prime conditions for an avalanche.
