DAWSON CREEK, B.C. –  The Alaska Highway between Dawson Creek and Taylor is set to reopen on schedule at 12 noon today, Thursday, December 17th.

While the Highway is expected to reopen, the ministry of transportation says it could be open to single-lane traffic as equipment is removed.

The Highway has been closed in both directions since the early morning on Sunday, December 13th, after a tanker truck collided and caught fire with a parked vehicle on the side of the highway.

The driver of the tanker truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Road crews have been working on the road trying to deal with a wooden culvert under the highway, which had also caught fire. The culvert had creosote in the wood, which is hazardous and poisonous and required the road crews to slowly pull apart the asphalt while the fire department sprayed foam on the wood.

In order for RCMP and others to investigate the scene, the culvert needed to be dealt with first.
