VICTORIA, B.C. – B.C. will set up its enforcement of COVID-19 rules.

Premier John Horgan says this is serious, and everyone needs to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. Horgan goes on to say, “if you are looking for loopholes, there will be fines for that.”

Since August, fines levied up to $2,000 have been in place for any British Columbian that violates a heath order or for anyone holding an event.

Fines for not wearing a mask in public have been around $230. Events like the protest this past weekend in Dawson Creek saw penalties of up to $2,300.

The current health orders have been extended until midnight on January 8, 2021. Minister Farnworth said last week, the Province’s main goal is to inform rule-breakers of the rules before handing out any fines.

In order to avoid fines, Horgan says everyone needs to follow the simple rules of holding no social gatherings, keeping a distance from others, and wearing a face mask when out in public.
